WA says NO to Daylight Saving

Bring it on. Its not a matter of keeping up with the East Coast, for me its about my lifestyle. I much prefer the extra daylight at the end of the day to walk the dog, exercise or hit the beach after a busy day at work. Morning people will disagree but how many parents are out there before school and work playing or exercising with the kids? Not many i expect. Each to their own but for me it is a no brainer.

I will be voting YES despite training 3 mornings a week at 6am. To be honest its nice exercising as the sun comes up. It is also better for showing homes to clients after work and I still get time to play with my kids. We have the perfect climate for it - lets hope it gets in!

Agh well; I was one of those who really wanted it, but no biggie. 10:1 against in the country - they must really not like it (must have loathed the 3-year trial), so I respect that, and I/we can survive without it (we didn't have it before). All power democracy, majority rules. Now, we can all get back to more important things like staving off the GFC and getting ourselves through this pending recession, working hard, family life, footy...

Once again Western Australians have been hoodwinked by the pressure groups and now have lost out on a better lifestyle and the ability to live life to the ful;l during the summer. A pity, such a great state such backward thinking - I cannot believe it.

WA hoodwinked by the pressure groups, lets see who brought this on? Oh yes WACCI, you know that overwhelmingly powerful pressure group who own a succession of state governments, peddling their lies business was losing money. A better lifestyle? How incredibly selfish, you were happy to deny half the population their well established lifestyle choices for a miserable optional extra hour of sun after work. Who was the beneficiary of DLS Ken, you and the likes of you, no one else. no one else but you. Backward thinking mmm I think not, it is you dear Ken who suffers from backward thinking. Struggle as you may, you will now have to get over yourself and think forward. If that hour was so precious approach the boss and argue flexitime. If He/She says no! change jobs. We in the west call it 'drawing outside the box'. A forward thinking process that pro DLS supporters need to grasp.RIP DLS forever!!!!!!!!!

Yes, once again sadly sees Perth backward thinking, even the Telstra ex-boss says Australia is years behind.  All this fuss and money on one hour! I cannot believe it, families and people that valued extra time to spend together are the losers! I agree with you Ken, and Vege ought to go and plant itself! deeper into the dark ages!

I hear Perth metro just narrowly voted in favour of DLS, 400,000 votes each add or take away fdor each camp, but it was massively rejected in country WA, which swung it to the NO, something like 180,000 NOs to a few tens of thousands for.

Here in the states, we've had DST for as long as I can remember.

It is really, really nice having that extra hour of sun in the evening. Having to change the clocks is only a minor inconvenience compared to the improvement in lifestyle afforded by the extra hour at night. Flex time is NOT an option for most, and looking for a new job in these times is not necessarily a good idea.

There are very few people here that would step backwards and eliminate DST. Everyone now enjoys that extra hour.

The general tenor of comments above from the Yes camp are entirely consistent with what they've been saying for years and is likewise the reason DLS got knocked off yet again. You (ie those in favour of DLS) wanted people to make a major change to their lives but did nothing to see the argument from their perspective or to persuade them. Indeed, all you ever did was to abuse and belittle them whenever they tried to tell you why they didn't like it. Very soon they stopped engaging and simply resolved to vote no in the privacy of the polling booth. It was easily the most incompetent sell job I've ever seen and now you've lost the opportunity for a whole generation.

If, in the very unlikely event you get another shot at this, you need to hear the concerns of people who don't like DLS and reassure them and try to persuade them. Just like any reasonable person trying to sell an idea to someone else would. Not simply shout at them that because you want it, they should have it. Hang your head in shame CCI et al.

I live abroad. I used to joke about it. Not now.I don't tell people of this bizzar outcome. What is wrong with West Australians? Was looking to move back with the wife, but I'm not sure her I.Q. is low enough to get a visa.
